NORTH DISTRICT SCHOOL PICNIC AND SPORTS.

The* scholars,- teaohers, and friends of the aboye school met this morning at ten p ; olaok,. in thel school ground,- to the number of [t about 32Q. ; After .forming in ranks, they were marched 'out the North Road ta Mr./'Meming's property, which had been lutidly granted for the occasion. On arriving "at the ' grounds the scholars were . formed into a circle and. sang the National Anthem., The sports were immediately entered into with great vigor, and many vof the events were keenly 'contested.' We understand that a great number, have been in training for the last monthy.-.ihose, of course, coming to the frpnt. ,The ;wedther was;. delightful, and reflected itself in the countenances of those present, making many a one wish they were young again.. It is doubtful whether a more-enjoya"ble day could have been spent, both young and old joining in the games with great heartiness. Mr. Lindsay wishes to thank Mr. Fleming and his good lady, on behalf of himself, teachers, scholars, and friends, for their kind-hearted generosity, they not only granting the use of the grounds, but also, sending a plentiful supply of tea, milk, buns,' and biscuits ; arid' also to. Mr. M'Pherson, for presenting several prizes.

Besides racing, vaulting, walking, &c., the girls and boys who were not in the regular programme of events, indulged in croquet, cricket, etc. The great events of the day being the sack race, egg and ladle race, backward race, Siamese race, and tug of war.
