In consequence of Mr. Ward's resignation, Mr. Gordon, the Deputy-Registrar, has been appointed Registrar, and Mr. T. L. Sheppanl appointed Clerk of the Court at jSaseby, Mr. Brewer being transferred to the clerkship of the Supreme Court here. A man named M'Millan, released from gaol on Saturday, died shortly afterafterwards.

The Grand Jw.nf has returned true bills in all cases, except John Johnstone and Thomas M'Naughton (for robbery). Win. White (for forgery at Oamaru) is acquitted. Metz pleaded guilty, and will receive sentence to-morrow. The Grand Jury reduced the indictment of murder against Mrs. Scott to one of manslaughter. Anglin, charged with perjury, has absconded. The Judge soundly rated Mr. Watt, R.M., for fixing the bail at such an absurd amount as LlO.

The Amberley-Bluff railway is about to be divided into railway districts, in each of which there will be a Traffic Inspector, who will have sole management of rolling stock for goods traffic, and be controlled only by the Commissioner of railways. The following appointments of Traffic In> spectors have been made : —James Ashley, Christchurch, Amberley to Ashburton (inclusive) and all brandies; Charles Lloyd, Oamaru. Waitaki North to Palmes ston and branches; William Knox, Dunedin, Palmerston (inclusive) to Clinton (inclusive) and branches; Joseph South, Invcrcargill, Clinton to Kingston and branches.
