MIRACULOUS DISCOVERY.
A curious revelation of clerical manoeuvres is made by one of the papers. It is a prayer, in the form of a letter, said to have been discovered miraculously at Jerusalem, and written on linen within the sign of a cross, in letters of gold, by the hand of Jesus Christ. It was further said to have been interpreted by an orphan child of seven j'ears, who had never yet spoken, as follows:—"I warn you; I have given you six days of the week to work, and the seventh to rest. Be present at worship ; help the afflicted. If you follow this rule your houses and children shall be filled with blessings. If, on the contrary, you do not believe the present letter, malediction shall come upon you and your children ; your cattle shall be cursed, you shall have the plague with famine and other maladies, and you shall be marke'd out for wrath. You will fast five Fridays, you will say five Aves and five Paters in remembrance of my passion, which I suffered upon the cross for your salvation. You will cany this letter, written by my own hand, pronounced by my own mouth. Finally, all those who shall keep it in their house without making it known to anybody, shall be condemned at the judgment ; but if they make it known, and give a copy to all who ask for it, they shall be blessed by God and by me, though they may have committed as many sins as there are stars in the firmament. They shall be pardoned, having thoroughly repented of having sinned against God." Two other similar emanations are published, represented to have been-also found in the Holy Sepulchre. Their properties are said to be those of ciarms or amulets, and to ensure the presence of the Virgin at the wearer's deathbed. The printer of these documents is a M. Chaix, who was lately fined in the matter of lespetifs Chinois.
