Dr. Moody Returns To Dunedin x

(From "N.Z. Truth's" Dunedin Rep.) TYR. B. B. W. SMYTH, who is, stationed */.. m Picton, was m Dunedin last week, and although he now gets very little serious tennis, he showed m a friendly game at Logan Park that he still knows how to put a ball away. : He has-certainly put on weight since he left Dunedin, but if once he got down to serious tennis, it would not be long before he could once again take his place with the best m New Zealand. . Dr. Moody returned to Dunedln last week after i an absence of about nine months, during which time he has visited England and the Continent. Although he had a serfous Illness while m England, . h els quite fit ' again and did not waste any time before hopping into tennis. Ladder matches are still being frequently played, and another surprise was occasioned last' week, when McDougall dropped down to fourth place. His vic± tor was the gre"atly improved Otago player, E. G. Boddy. During the past couple .of months, Boddy has been taking his tennis very seriously, and on the game he 'played against McDougall he deserved his win m straight sets. *■ 15, Pearce, of Wellington, has entered for the Otago championships at New Tear, and is one of the- four seeded players In the singles. The other seeded players are Guy, Boddy and McDougall. . Bray, the present Otago champion, does not intend to defend his title, and this- will be the first Otago championships from which Bray has been absent for the last fifteen years or more. The Southland championship tournament to be played at Invercargill, promises to be highly successful, particularly In the men's, events, when outside competition will make matters very interesting 1 . Two noticeable absentees will be Miss Melvin and Miss Wadef who also are going, to Christchurch for the championship. This leaves Miss Kein, Miss Guest and Miss Lawrence all m the running for the ladies' singles championship. The men's singles will probably be fought out between Boddy, McDougall and H. Sempter, with the odds m favor of Boddy. , The men's championship doubles should be an easy thing for Boddy and McDougall. Bowls
