Danger of Dropping Into Engine Pan
QWNERS who used to suffer the cxv/ perience of dropping things into the engine pan may not realise it, but this difficulty has come back m a new] form. This time it has to do with working on the valves. In many of the newer cars there are openings from the valve comportment ; into the crankcase through which oil sprays to the valve steins. In removing the pins from the valve stem, therefore, there is the constant risk of dropping one of them into the crankcase below. If this happens the owner, or his repair man, is faced with the trouble and expense of dropping the case. ■■'■'■ ■'"''.'■ About the best way to prevent such trouble is to pack a cloth around the I bottom of the valve when pulling the pin. In a pinch one mechanic' extracted a pin from the case back through the opening by using an elec-' | tromagnet. V
