Archie Strang Leads Temuka Club

(From "K.Z. Truth's" Timaru Rep.) AFTER a spell of three weeks, club football has been resumed." '■ > At the end of the . afternoon the posi r tions of the leading teams were un-; changed, and on Saturday Old Boyg and Temuka.. will contest, the* right to hold the Skinner Cup for the 1930 season. Both teams had easy wins on Saturday, but- the Royal Blues piled up their score largely by reason of their opponents' mistakes, whereas Temuka had to subdue a hefty "Celtic pack before the Magpie backs could do much with the ball. . . And then Archie Strang, playing highclass football, directed the attack with such good effect that the board registered twenty-six points, as against six when the final whistle blew. Strang did not cross the line himself on Saturday, but he made the openings for three tries, while his line-kicking gained great ground for his side. On present form, Strang must go into the New Zealand team for the third Test. , According to Captain F. D. Prentice, Strang, who played behind- the scrum m the Combined game against the British-' ers, was the best half the visitors had met up to the time of that match. The Temuka man will give equally as good service m the five-eighths line. Playing at Fraser Park, Old Boys scored six tries, ' only, one of which was converted, against Waihi, but their shqwing as a team was riot very impressive. W. Neutze, at centre, played a slashing game, cutting m twice for a brace of tries, but. at the same time, he did not fit m with A.Lawson, Old Boys' second five-eighths. ' '•■ ' The Callanan brothers, with L. Neutze, were the pick of the Waihi pack, while Coxhead, Bassett and Aitken were the best of the Old Boys' packmen. R. Earl, half-back, and M. Polhill, second fiveeighths, were most conspicuous m the Waihi rear division.'
