Court; more especially on the day when maintenance niatteVs: occupy the time of the magistrate, adjournments are asked for. ' " . ■ This practice is not one that meets with 'favorable reception oh some occasions, and counsel for the opposing side usually has something to say. " When a case was called before Mr. J. S. Barton, S.M., m the Wellington Police Court, Mr. P. Jackson, for the husband, asked for an ,-,•■■ adjo.yrnment. , . ■ Counsel .for the wife, Mr. Ai B. Sievwright, objected, and pointed , out that his client was destitute and m urgent need of nioney. According to Mr. Jackson it was necessary for an adjournment to be granted, and there was considerable argument on both sides as to • the. relative merits or demerits of- the case. " i- . ■" Mr. Barton finally asked what would satisfy IVIr. Sievwright, and said he could see no reason why an adjournment should not "be granted.: ,'..'■•"•'..■ Mr.-oieywright broke up the court when he said: "Very well, sir, but I ask for costs." • titiitm 1 11 1 111 it 1 1 utit 1 utrit 1 1 1 tti 11 nit 1 11 1 rtiii IKf nil 1 11 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 111 1 1 ■ tin Jin 1 1 1 1 11 ru 1 1 if (Mi 1 irr km m1 n 1 11 run 11 r jii 1 iirdi mi rif Iru uiriin irrxi 1 irrui j r»rm 1 1 rtui lifti 11 niu 11 m■■ nriiLT
