MANY are the holiday and health seekers who take recreation on Westland's glittering ice-river, the Franz Josef glacier. Here, while the delights of nature fill them Avith admiration, their host is a man whose sturdy character has been moulded by his long alpine environment. ; He is Peter Graham, who manages the Waiho Hotel,' South Westland, along with his brother, Alex. Peter knows the Southern Alps as probabiy none other does. Scarcely is there a peak, a crag, or a route unfamiliar to him. Formerly its chief guide at tne Hermitage, Mount Cook, and now at Waiho, he has been tne companion and counsellor of scores of aspiring alpinists on adventurous mountain trips. His accomplishments include several ascents of Aorangi. New Zealandeis who climb with Peter do not take long to absorb some of his own love for tneir native Alps.
