Is Very Puzzling
ANE curious element which presents itself m relation to the adventures of Kingsford. Smith and his "Co." is the fact of their suffering through lack of foodstuffs. Smith is what may be described as a "super-cautionist." The interlocking stories around and about the Pacific and Tasman flights make that abundantly clear. If recollection has not . led us astray, a. quantity of concentrated •food, was a n inseparable complement of the Southern Cross on both these flights, yet no mention of any similar foodstuffs appears either m the log kept by Ulm, or m the subsequent accounts of the two . newspaper men who afterwards visited the swamp lands. Surely, Smith's experience made manifest the vagaries of aerial pioneering, ahd. the need for precaut ion? ■ Did they eat the concentrated food on the trek- across the Continent, or had they omitted this im- . portant factor from their preparations?. iiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiimiiii
