Goblin Market Never In Hunt For Champagne Punters got it m the neck early m the piece at Riccarton on Monday, when Goblin Market failed m the Champagne Stakes.

THE Absurd youngster stripped as well as anything m tne field and he went down well enough m his preliminary. He was the only one backed m a spirited manner. Anything that happened at the start or immediately afterwards could not be picked up In the main stand, but when the field came out or the mist the favorite was conspicuous by his absence. Coming to the course proper, there was only one horse behind him— Prickles. Ellis drew the stick on Goblin Market as the false rail was reached.

Momentarily he moved up, bufc died stone-cold a furlong and ahalf off the post. Concentrate and Chide were fighting out the issue at this stage, but ove# the last furlong neither could with* stand the devastating run Prickles un» wound. The Chokebore filly showed a great burst of speed and from what looked, almost an impossible position — the tail end of the field — she mowed them down, one by one, to win nicely. The time was posted as Imin. 13 sees. Either the timekeeper had a slow watch or the winner is a re* markably fast filly.
