Invercargill Cup Prospects
(From "N.Z. Truth's" Southland Rep.) Though it is a bit of a novelty to try and pick winners before the handicaps are declared, one often marvels at the success achieved when knowing least. OUCH is not the case with the Inver- *■*' cargill Cup, however, and as the weights will be. announced before this appears in print, the owners of the winner cannot take umbrage at the attempt to place his horse first on the opening- day of the Southland Racing Club's fixture. While not wishing to stress the horse's name too much, in order not to sp6il the dividend, "N.Z. Truth" mentions a likely candidate — Battle Colours. • Southerners fancy Pink Note, Schottische, Celerity 11., Set Sail, Baldowa and John Bradbury. Admittedly, it is a strong field, but Battle Colours may win, her hardest opponents being Celerity 11. and Set Sail. In connection with ''- other events, Tarleton, Thistlecrown, Wharncliffe and Jack o' Lantern will do j. well over hurdles. •/ 1?; - [\ Spearmaid, Amorist, Court Jester, Solrose and Taboo should earn money at the fixture. :i '
