AVONDALE CUP
Best Class Entered (From "N.Z. Truth's" Special Auckland Rep.) The class entered for the £1200 Avondale Cup, to be decided on September 24, is absolutely the best available and there is promise of a reasonably interesting contest. DACING at Wanganui this week will ** serve to improve horses of the calibre of Star Stranger, Te Monanui, Eden Hall, Mask, Alloway, Beacon Light and Degage. Te Kara, Master Doon, Desert Glow, Lord Star, Royal Mint, Queen Arch and Transformer are among the other entrants, which total 21. The handicaps are due to appear on Monday next, while an acceptance fee of 6 soys. is set for Friday, the 16th, at 5 p.m. There is no desire at present to support any of the candidates spiritedly. Punters prefer to observe what Wanganui form discloses and the appearance of the weights before making a firm favorite. Te Monanui, Star Stranger and Eden Hall were three nominees for the Cup seen out at Marton which will be vastly improved by the 24th. WINNING DOUBLE [T is understood that there is nothing 1 doing as a result of the inquiry into the alleged participation of a winning double by two prominent northern owners. • • • THOUGH not retained, "Snow" Mor- •*■ ris is to do the Moore riding this season when the weight suits. DRICE a horse these days and tht> answer is always a thousand or more. One priced at Marton is worth at the most five hundred, but fifteen hundred was asked.
