FROM P.C. TO M.P.

JORDAN, M.P." by Edgar Wallace, suggests itself when you hear the name. And perhaps it is not .the mere fact of the name that gives rise to the thought, for William Joseph Jordan bas had a career which fits him very much better for politics than the average •of those who make the laws of this country.

Jordan, M.JP., has se&n life, knows life and understands his fellow-men and their peculiarities."

Born at Ramsgate, m the Homeland, he was apprenticed to coach- painting when he had concluded his education, but seemingly not satisfied with that vocation he entered the. postal service m the "Big Smoke" and later joined the famous metropolitan police force.

There was a restless urge m. the brain of William Joseph/ however, and still he was not satisfied; hence it transpired that some 20 odd years ago he braved the elements and duly arrived m the land of the Maori.

"Them were the days," so to speak, when the land was the land, and he tried his hand. Still unsettled, he left the mud-tracks of the backblocksahd started, m business m the capital; another move saw him m the Waikato and some little place m the local -politics of a small town.

The present Manukau representative is a man of considerable personality and is considered to have the courage of his convictions, but at the same time it is safe to : say that he has not found m politics that outlet for his energies for which he had hoped.

His burning ambition to "get things done" has been more than a little baulked by the sand m the bearings of all Parliamentary procedure, which goes to make the game of politics the disappointing pastime that it is to any man who sincerely has the welfare of his country at heart.
