THAT OLD HAT

Felt hats are now so universally worn by both men and women that m nearly every wardrobe there is sure to be one that has seen better days and is ready to be discarded.' UVEN. m these days of cleaning and X-i blocking, when a hat can be made j to look like new at a trifling cost, ! [ there comes a time when the hat must i | cease to be useful as a hat and can be turned into something else. The uses of an old felt hat are legion. „ For instance, a cosy little pair of baby slippers can be made out of an old felt hat. If it is a gaily-colored one so ,much the better. The pattern can easily be taken from an old shoe and the slippers can easily be made un on the machine. A gay pom pom from scraps of wool retrieved *frorh the work-basket completes the "little slippers which are very warm and will wear quite a- Ion.? I time especially if the soles are cue from a piece of old carpet. j The small cuttings need not be wasted either as there are innumerable uses for small pieces of felt. The larger B bits doubled over with some knife polish between make excellent knife cleaners for those who are not fortunate enough to own stainless knives. , Tiny pieces make washers for | taps, etc. Small pieces of felt , glued on the bottom of chair legs make them easier to . move and prevent the scratching of polished linoleum. A piece nailed on the top or bottom of the door lintel does away with the noise of banging doors.
