The annual race meeting of the Egrmorit-Wahganui Hunt Club is to be held on August 25. Big fields, are assured m most of the events at, this meeting, which is very popular with hunting enthusiasts and' rani ng men on this coast. * * • Time was when Wanganui had a large number of keen huntsmen, but since the war the club has claimed very few members from this .district. In fact, the name of the club is now a misnomer, as it is the district between Waverley and. Hawera that now keeps the club going. **. . * „ The annual race meeting will, however, be well patronized by. Wanganui sports, and some fine racing is assured. • . ' * • ' - It was hard luck for Mr. E. Dwyer that Porthus should have ricked himself as! a result of over-reaching when being schooled over the battens. The gelding will have to miss the hunt meetings, at which he promised to pick up a hurdle race or two. ,* * * Hughie Johnston has hopes of Diamond Ring making good as a hurdler, In her schooling essays she has shown natural jumping ability, and she gives the impression that she has good prospects if she keeps sound. .■w, * • ' ' THREE-YEAR-OLD Alioway, the three-year-old son of Limond — Admyra, has thickened out considerably, and, is beginning to show a bit of pace. If he proves as speedy as his dam he will win some good races for Mri L. G. Paul. # # • . Royal Elm is to be a runner at the Marto'n meeting all going well, and on the form shown by this gelding last season he should more than pay his way during the spring campaign. ♦♦ , * A great future is predicted for the youngster by Chief Ruler^-rWake Up, recently purchased by Mr. D. Graham, of New Plymouth. He is a remarkably fine looking colt. Wanganui punters are saying up , to be on Amber Tips when he is next stripped. * # .■' * •'•.'.■ Fred Tilley js busy getting his team ready for the Wanganui meeting. Ohui, the sister to Tamatete and Tukia, was unlucky m the autumn, as she caught a very severe cold just as she was giving every indication of having greatly improved. •.'.'#■ * . ' # . Mandane also had to be laid aside owing to contracting a bad cold, Tamatete injured himself at the "Wanganui Cup meeting, and Limited also met with an accident, %yhich cut short his two-year-old career.

Tamatete was regartted by many as a "naa been" early, lasti season, but the s.on of Absurd— Tahua ''.showed that he was almost as brilliant 1 , as ever at the Wanganui au.tumn meteting. It will be interesting to see Whether Tilley can. get this great -galloper to- the post fit and well again. •■ . ■ - # ■ . * > # . ' If appearances go for anivthing Vanninia will strip a very fit horse at the Hunt Club meeting, and. hi* will keep the opposition very busy m |the hurdles if he does not . take top m^uch out of himself m the early stages. ' •'*• • . * Several horses are being got ready m the river c.ity for forthcoming hurdle events^ but they cannot do much schooling for the reason that -trainers find it impossible to get any riders to put them through their paces. \
