OEVBN races a day for the A.R.C ° meetings at Ellerslie will again be adhered to this season. Last season's experiment was satisfactory. There will be sweepstakes of 10 soys each for starters m connection with two events at Ellerslie during: the present season. The races chosen are the Railway and Easter Handicaps. •• ■ ♦ '.■;•. Though they may not be what can be termed a "flash" lot. entered for the Jellicoe Handicap at Pakuranga Hunt meeting, quite, a number of the horses have had winter racing as a recommendation that they should npt be backward. # , a * The ex- Ellerslie hurdle horseman, L. Watson, received a nasty fall off Mount Marta recently m Sydney. i * , *. * White Bird, the English importation which has been given every chance to become accustomed to, our climate, may not be a starter at. Pakuranga. Trainer Tom George had hopes that W. H. Jones would be back to ride her; but that probability now is off. Tresham has wintered well up north, and has got through some useful- tasks. # # • Stormy Is Calm Stormy is as robust and hearty as ever and it will be interesting to see him m action again. There are races at Taranaki hunt meetings and Marton which should suit him if his people would take them on. ■ # ■ * •'; * Blue Sky m Tozer's stable is on the improve. He , broke it for a minor event at Rotorua last season, and should do better. ■ . ■ .• ■ * • Owner J. T>. Jones and Trainer J. Williamson returned to Auckland from their Sydney trip last week. ' ' . Surveyor claimed the first foal ■of the season up north — a chestnut filly from Pell. The foal': is a half-sister to Pelham, the Douro Cup winner. c # • The Government taxes over Takapuna meetings last season headed off the stake money, £16,---853 going to the State, and £14,---025 m stakes. . ' Though the Grey Monk two-year-old has been disposed of by Mr. Ewan Alison, jun., to Mr. J.. McGregor, the youngster still remains in ' P. Gilchrist's charge. Little Mosaic has not been taken up seriously as yet. He is still up country. • * ♦ The Comedy King representative Dress Circle has got through a fair amount of work during the winter under Mark Ryan, and he may make his presence felt early m hack' fields up north. ■'• i * * Waiau Lad is definitely given out as the name under which the Roseal hunter m Anderton's charge will race. .■■. * i * * The Quantock-Donna Marie gelding, Quandong, m Williamson's charge, has shaped well m initial sprints. #■' • * Though Marble Mount figured as a minor winner last season he hardly raced up to expectations towards the lato autumn. He is among the regulars again under W. Gall and is coming along nicely.
