OTAHUHU SPRING "TROTS "

Big Fields Assured

COMPETITION WILL BE KEEN

(From "Truth's" Special Auckland Representative.) The Otahuhu Spring Trotting fixture to-day and on Wednesday next is assured of success, for the fields promise to be large enough to provide keen competition. No fewer that 132 payments have been made m connection with the opening day— an average of over 16 per race.

There is no stake on the programme, of less value than 300 soys. j President H. R. McKenzie, secretary R. Absolum, . and their committee can be depended upon to have everything m order, and the quota of visiting horses outside the district is sufficient to lend, additional interest • The principal event to be decided today is the Jellicoe Handicap, of 1000 soys, two miles, for horses who may go 4.34 or better. This has influenced eleven acceptors, and of these all but three will be trying to claim the big end of the purse for Auckland province. Perhaps the main hope of northerners will rest m Goldman's prospects from the 48yds mark/ T. Roe's charge finished second to the mighty Imprint off the same mark on a dead track m the Spring: Handicap last month, and from 60yds behind next up finished third to Imprint (60yds) and Talaro (12yds). Talaro was a length and a quarter behind Imprint that afternoon, and Goldman three lengths behind Talaro. It was the Alexandra Handicap at the A.R.C. spring meeting and the going was good. Now that Goldman is nearer

Talaro from the "hop off," it would appear that the form of the pair must be taken into account when searching for tho probable solution, especially as Talaro has figured as a winner m the meantime at Addington. Another southerner m Orion is expected to make matters interesting. This aged son of Mauritius — Rosie won the Otahuhu Cup off the limit from several others (including Audacious) last February, going 4.32 3/5, with First Carbine (48yds) and Acron (S4yds) m the places. Riddle's candidate must be considered, despite the fact that he had two other unplaced performances recorded last season after winning at Alexandra Park. First Carbine has his work cut out to win from 72yds. Lord Nepean and Dean Dillon are fit horses, and Orouarangi is coming back fast. Woodvale can go but is unreliable. &.gain, Lady Joan is a whisper, while Glandore would have to do his best. Summed up, the candidates which should run well are Goldman, Talaro, Orion.
