Chatham Cup Contest
Ihe coveted Chatham ', Cup match, considering the state of the ground, t was a good one to watch,' thrills being plentiful throughout. The shooting at times was top class, yet at other times it was wretched. Both goalkeepers were fine and each ainedkfrequent applause. Seacliff was by far the cleverer am, and their mid-field play was a •eat. Where Seacliff failed was m efence. It -v seemed as if they tied' lemselves m knots at times, and oth V.M.'s" goals were got through prambles m the goal mouth/ lOn each occasion the goalie tried Is hardest to punch the ball away, Lt his backs seemed to get m his [y.M. were the nippier team, but leir halves took too much upon Jemselyea trying phots when a pass
would have been better. Nicholle and Ballard rattled the bar with great shots. Neither team utilised the cross wind as they should have done, and the outside right of each team should have shot more when the '< wind was m their favor. Hooper is a good centre and took a lot of watching. Trott had at least seven shots at goal, and every time it went over the bar. Seacliff's outside loft sent m a very hot shot, but Bentley ■saved m marvellous fashion. Each side had a penalty,' but the goalie saved them. •For the full ninety minutes it was a great game, but during the extra time tempers got x'Uffled and things looked very ugly at- one stage., Y.M., on the day, deserved to win, and must be congratulated on being the first team to bring the Chatham Cup to Wellington.
Dunedin,/ Auckland and now "Wellington have had the cup, so now it is up to Christchurch to take it.
