The Marble Arch — Kakama gelding is m with the welter division to-day and if he is favored with the start will be sure to give a good account of himself. # * * Value, the Paper Money — Grey. Linnet filly m the Avondale Stakes is a half sister to Songbird. She shows a lot of . pace, according to those who have watched her work-outs at Te Awamutu. # * # King Merv is quality but the bad attack of the 'flu the local sprinter has just got civer commands one to look elsewhere for the Flying Stakes winner. # *■ * Gold Rain is working well on the tracks at Te Aroha. The half-brother to King Lv has not raced up to early expectations but owner Bob Hines hopes to have tbetter results before long. # * * York Abbey will not lack friends this afternoon. Dick Hannon's gelding is m good company 'but this astute owner-trainer gets them right and York Abbey is a very game sort. # * =» Tall Timber looked like a real "carrier" last season. He can carry weight and it should not be long before he is well up with the best of his class. # ** w Flying Juliet was beaten at Wanganui but this smart two-year-old is going to carry some Waikato money at Avondalo this afternoon. A youngster that can lead Dan Quin for four is not altogether a slug. # * * Strong-holt is being- given plenty of work at Claudelands by trainer Watsort. The Polydamon — Ju Jitsu mare has thickened considerably during the winter and will catch some money during her five-year-old term. He showed good form at intervals last season and should 'be a better horse for the n&w tei-m. # * # Alfort will have his first race for a long time at the Avondale meeting. The Te Rapa trained candidate looks well and if he fails the first time out it will be for the lack of racing condition. # # =srOwen has been entered for hack events at Whangarei. He is m good trim at present and is capable of showing up m the company to be encountered -on the far northern circuit. t # ■ # * King Lv was a very promising two-year-old but the Lucullus representative was a hard horse to keep to top pitch. He has improved a lot during the winter and it will be surprising i£ he floes not pay his way well this season. # *,: * Arizona Maid (San Fran — Voca) and one of the best bred mares about, has been mated with King Nassau (Nassau—St. Sophia). Arizona Maid has finished racing, owing to injuries sustained by being run down by a motor cycle last seas-pn when m training at Te Aroha.

Rippon Abbey ran m such commanding style over a mile at Ellersiie m August that there is no reason why he should not get the extra furlong m the Swanson handicap this afternoon. # * *

Esthonia is the leading member of P. Scally'steam at Te Aroha. The aged Elysian — Mirania mare won three races last season and was also m second place on three occasions so that she paid her way. She will soon be ready for 'duty.

Illumination stands his ground m the Avondale Cup, which is an indication that Frank Loomb's charge has come through his preparation satisfactorily. The Limelight horse is a proved stayer, and is sure to be with them -when the twelfth furlong is being traversed.

Multini will be raced over hurdles this season.' J. Whitten ,is giving the Lord Multifid— Penthesilia mare a good grounding m the new game at Te Aroha. If she masters the jumping business she should be iieful as she has more than average pace.

White Comet may surprise by his showing m the Cup this afternoon. The Day Comet — Lady

Frisco gelding is a better horse no\A/ than he has ever been. If he fails to-day he will not be long m making amends. * * * ,

Matinee is an in-and-out customer. Phil Brady has been giving the Day Comet horse plenty of work. The fact that he does not do well when travelling is against him, but if he is found m the galloping mood 7.7 will not .overburden him m the Henderson Handicap.

Abbey Bell will not be at Avondale. She cut a tendon very badly while doing a gallop at Te Rapa on Saturday morning, and it is doubtful if she will ever race again.
