It was a wise move to miss the first day at Otaki and thus strip the gelding a fresh horse on the second. # * # Royal Land, one of the Acre tribe, showed pace m his race at Otaki. He ran greenly, but when seasoned will win races for Ted Needham. v # • Mr. Alan Cameron up till last week had been racing with bad luck, but the double win of Hymestrason and the success of Black Rock at Otaki may mean the end of the lane. « * # Frank Higgott has. had Miss O'Dille for some time now, but as yet there is no sign of his winning a race with the chicken-hearted mare. # * * An owner reported . a trainer at Otaki for not being present to attend to business. Those who know the owner reckon it was a bit over the odds. # . * # Imperial Spark had only the one race at Otaki. His big weight, coupled with the going, was all against him. With a firmer track he will do better. i

Miss Hupana likes the Otaki course, and she never fails to show up there. At the just past meeting- she ran a first and a second. * # * Padonna is a brother to Tamatete and Tukia, but that is about his share. He looks more .like a circus performer than a racehorse. *#■ * . Clarinda was not started either day at Otaki owing to the state of the going. The mare is not built the right way to> go m mud, , * * • Nukumai is now starting to meet seasoned horses, with the result he is being overwhelmed m the final stages of races. * * # A lot of people will not have Lucius to be a horse, but give him the ground with the sting out of it and see if he isn't. - * ■ * * A hurdle and cross-country horseman who has put m for his trainer's ticket will have a fair team to start with should his application be granted. * * * Mireusonta's bad leg gives every indication of standing. The road and hill work has caused the weak spot to callous, and he should stand up to the work. * # * Kalakaua is to fulfil his New Zealand Cup engagement, and he will most likely be ridden m that event by Ben Rosen. The, mare is of such class that she will win m better company before long. * -* *. On his running at Oannevirke Minstrel Boy will take all sorts of beating at Napier to-day. Charlie France is to ride him. * # *■ Killoch is an unlucky mare, one that is always promising to do a trot. She is the sort to send punters to the asylum. , * # • Commendation will show up m the two-year-old race at Napier to-day. He is to be ridden iby Claude Brown. " * * * Ben Burgess won a race at Otaki with Merry Day. Ben reckoned the mare was not ready to win -but he had that on his own. * * * Though the prices each -day at Otaki were on the small side the betting was good, both on and off the course. The 'big fellow woulu get a great reception if he won, 'but that is not likely. * # * Bonecto's recent running would point him not being a horse. His form has been very bad the last two months. * # # Chrissarto is only a pony and he should do well over the other side.
