SCHOOL-BOY NOTES

Say, Charlie! The heads of our game have at .last realised that, school football is going ahead. The New Zealand Council has given £25 towards the expenses of- the tournament.' So far, so good, but I want them to go farther. I will leave that for the time being and • tell you a little about my "ideal" centre forward. He must be rather tall, wiry, weighty, speedy and brainy and with a kick like a mule! Not selfish, but, capable of a -great individual effort when needed. -He. must be able to take a ball coining from any angle and quickly. get it under control. He must be a first-time shot and also good with his head.' .Must be able to hook, tap, glide, and screw a 'ball when necessary. He must be a real general, able. to. keep his line together, distributing the ball to both wings; . He must have quite. a number of tricks up his sleeve and keep varying his play. Never on any occasion should he talce his opponents too cheaply. When 1 m •front of goal with- only the goalie : to beat he should never try and bust the net when a tap will do the trick. One that is nippy, ever ready for/ the ball when it comes and ready to pounce upon it at .a second's notice. I in-, tend to .give you' a few notes on the game m general- after this.
