Penalties for Classics
Should Be Deleted Last season the Hawkes Bay Guineas field consisted of nothing but hacks as the form since has proved. However, the quality engaged m the approaching race is something like — Automne, Nincompoop, Gold Box, Liicinius, Kaiti, Runnymede, Mimetic, Shirley, etc., being the class engaged. The penalty condition at present attached to the race is wrong and should be abolished. The winner of( either the Wanganui or Avondale Guineas is penalised but a three-year-old winning the Avondale Cup or any other rich event escapes. A penalty or penalties for w.f.a. races may be debateable, but when attached to a classic event it is ridiculous and more so m the case of the.Hawkes Bay Guineas where the stake is not large. It simply prevents the winner of cither of the penalised races starting.
