His leg was troublesome at Christchurch and he will probably be given a spell. # » # When Blue Peter fell at Christ-, church he injured his leg somewhat badly. This was hard luck for his connections as he was m great nick. # * # Taranaki steeplechasers took their share of the stake money at Riccarton. Tuki, Eerie and Passin' Through all paying expenses. . # * * Tuki's win was very popular m New Plymouth, though most sports backed the other Taranaki horses. Genial Jim O'Neill, who made no secret of the fact that he fancied his horse, was warmly congratulated. # # * Eerie, remained m Wellington over the Fleet meeting, but Passin' Through was brought home. # « * Rehutai's party were sanguine of landing a stake at Riccarton, but evidently the going- did not suit the mare. #*. # • ■ Lively Fire is m steady work now but will not be put over the sticks for a while. The races Tiff had at Riccarton will help him on his return to form for important summer contests. ** ' * Rapier won a double at Riccarton and paid a big dividend on each occasion. And neither time was it a iluke. Barn Owl petered out badly at the end of her races on both days at Riccarton. She is no good m heavy ground. * # • • # • Horatius.is back m H. Ellis's stable. In the Summer. Handicap he pushed himself into second place. * # ' * Knocklyn was a quiet tip for the Woolston Handicap at Riccarton hut fourth placo was the best she could do. Flaming Ray shows a lot of fight and dash for a piece; but it is only for a little piece. , * * * In mud His Majesty is like a ship m a heavy sea — not worth two bob.
