Looking very sickly, he pleaded guilty to having- been drunk and having stolen eight glasses and one towel the property of an Auckland hDu?lkeeper. His counsel said that he had sot drunk for the first time m his life out of sheer hospitality to the 'American sailors, who are at present the guests of the country whose servant incidentally he is. His position iii the employ of the State would make publication of the man's name a sure and instant dismissal. He cbuld not {dye, any explanation why and when he nad taken the glasses found shattered m his possession. He was drunk. S.M. Poynton put an end to defendant's worries by imposing a fine of 1 £5 for theft and ordering the suppression of the name. - ,
