W ilf or d Resigns Leadership ONLY TEMPORARILY IT IS HOPED. Under the pressure of insistent medical advice, T. M. Wilford, Leader of the National Party (late LiberalLabor Party) has resigned the position of Chief of the Official Opposition. ■ On all sides of the House there will be regrets at the necessity for this .action. In the recent Fusion negotiations Mr. Wilfopd gained many admirers by his unequivocal refusal to take office m a Fusion Cabinet. He took this stand m order to assist m uniting the forces pf.Constitutionalism and British Imperialism against the invasion of Socialism and disintegration of the Empire. -For some time he has been a sick man, but he has loyally stuck to his post. Fate has ordained that- he must desist from the active participation m politics that he has taken m the past. It is far too early yet to write T. M. Wilford's political "obituary." His ambition to serve m a .higher capacity the land of his birth and the Empire he is proud to belong to- may yet be realised. He has many friends. He has no enemies outside, the political arena. The political "enemies" are but political opponents. .Everyone will unite m wishing Tom Wilford a complete restoration to health. . Meanwhile, G. W. Forbes succeeds Mr. Wilford as Leader of the Nationalist Party. Forbes is an able man and has a good record. Either Wilford or Forbes — and both — could have worked well with Gordon Coates m running this country for ALL the people, not some of the people.
