Will He Stay?

Prospects of Licinius

There was no more consistent two-year-old last season than Lioinius, who had to do all' his racing m handicaps. Licinius was not engaged . m any of the two-year-old classics, <so it was necessary for him to take on handicaps. He soon found himself at the top of the weights, but notwithstanding this he was never out of a place. ■ • ' Since he went into retirement for the season, Licinius has furnished a lot and he will strip a very handsome three- year-old. "Truth" is of the opinion that Licinius will not stay. We expected to see him out early this season, starting with the Guineas at Wanganui, but such is not to be the case. Licinius is not to have his first race till the Hastings Guineas, at the beginning of October. He will then race at Trentham, following which he will be sent south for the Derby. Mr. C. Elgar is anxious to win his second Derby, and that is no doubt why he has mapped out the above programme. But to our way of thinking the commencement of the season with the Wanganui Guineas would have been a better arrangement.
