WOMEN POLICE PATROLS
: In Its l'eport, the Rbyal Commission on Mental Defectives and Sexual Offenders, after coinciding with the opinions I of ■'■ the Education : pepartment authorities the evils f bf stuffy atmosphere, overcrowded picture halls, arid late outing, where children m particular are concerned, expresses ■ sympathy with proposals * for reform along the following lines:
.. (1) Stricter censorship,'*' not only of films,' but- of: picture posters^ handbills,; and. advertisements. (2) lations a.s\ to. the age of- admission; for children when uhaccbinpanied :by , a responsible adult,.arid to such pictures as are not- pronounced by the Censor to be suitable for children. l (3) Pro-
per safeguards for the morals of children and young persons; within picture theatres, including adequate supervision of the premises. :
Now, the last saying of ; the conw mittee .(writes '"Uptodata")- makes th<e reader think a great deal. The eVideiicej given by one 'social worker t.o the Commission was from the first word, to : the last (whether intentionally or. otherwise) proof of the neces-r sity for the providing by Government of women "police or ; patrols. Young and foolish people, particularly girls, are rendered conspicuous if they, are spoken to by a policeman; while the same attention from a woman' patrol would be quite a different n^atter. ; /
