That Auckland Incident,
The Pui'dy — Trowern fight at Auckland produced one of the most sensational incidents ever witnessed iri a ring, the incident illustrating the capabilities of referee Frank Burns. In the twelfth round of the contest Purely claimed a foul. Burns called a doctor to have the boy examined. That was all right, but the next thing was that Purdy was being carted out of the ring to be examined. Oh cripes! What next? What was the referee doing? Then Trowern went and had a sit clown for a couple of minutes till the allegedly fouled boxer came back. Then the contest was resumed. Apparently the rules of the New Zealand Boxing Association are not followed m Auckland — those compiled by the ancient and venerable Rafferty being- preferred.
