Married Men Live Long

Sir Arthur, Newsholme, formerly chief medical v officer to the Local Government Board, has just published a book dealing with some of the elements of statistics m which a chapter is devoted to the relation between matrimony and mortality. In lt ho sets' out a table prepared by M. Lucien March some years ago which shows that at all ages a much lower death rate. applies among married men than among single men or widowers; among married women the death rate is somewhat higher at ages 20 to 40 than among single women or widows but at ages 40-60 and over sixty the superiority of married women is very evident. Sir Arthur joints out that several factors contribute to thc longevity of married men. He observes that as a rule "a married man has v more secure social position than ar unmarried, and correspondingly has a better economic and sanitary environment."
