Arrested On Honeymoon

WANTED FOR MAINTENANCE.

(Prom "Truth's" Taranaki Rep.)

j A scene akin to tho sloppy American movie drama depicting the young husband snatched from the arms of his bride was suggested, by the appear- j ance ln the Now Plymouth Court last week of WNlia- m Charles Simons on { an Information laid by his previous wife, Annie Simons, charging him with j failing to provide for the maintenance of his 13 -year-old son. j The troubles of the Simons* family haye often been ventilated m the Court. .Simons and his previous wife have not been able tot hit it together for years and at last he left. Two years ago he returned with the idea of letting the dead past bury Its dead and of starting off afresh, but it could not be done, so William went off again, taking on a job In Sydney. Annie later instituted divorce proceedings and, thus freed, William took unto himself ANOTHER WIFE, but on coming back to New Zealand Annie's- hand again fell on him m the Bhape of a warrant for his arrest on the present charge. Lawyer L. M. Moss, who received a last-mlnuto call to speak on William's behalf, said that William had come back to New Zealand at the request of hia family. Pie was anxious to get work at Inglewood or the Tarlki Hydro Works and to discharge his, obligations. His brother desired this course and Mr. Moss asked that the case should be adjourned for that purpose. William was deficient ln this world's goods at the moment and if an order was made against him there would be nothing else for it bu*t go to gaol. The brother was quite willing to enter into sureties for William If they were required.

Ron H. Qulllian, who appeared for Annie, said William had given a

GREAT DEAL OP TROUBLE and lt was only by a coincidence that he had at last been landed. Three warrants had been issued for his arrest. "Our information," he said, "Is that this visit is only a temporary one. Ho is here on his honeymoon trip with his bride."

Mr. A. M. Mowlem, S.M., said ho knew enough about "the family upheaval" to make him quite familiar with certain aspoctH of It at all events. He would say nothing about tho merits of the application, but something must bo done In view of William's previous disappearance from tho country. Ho would adjourn tho caso until January 31, the defendant being released on his recognisance of £100 and one surety* of a like amount.
