HIGGINS AT MOUNT EDEN.

Higgins arrived m Auckland, under the escort of Sergeant O'Grady and Constable Trask, by the Thames express last Saturday afternoon, and the ■Black iMoria." was waiting for him at the station. The handcuffed prisoner was hustled smartly into the prison van, and only a few rail-pray officials saw the transference. The prisoner 18 said to have indulged m a few "mild" jokes with, his escort on the trip, and to have been seemingly unaware of the terrible position he was in — or if alive to the horror of hla deed, he did not display any emotion. Word that he., wan on the Thames express had beSh passed along the line on Saturday, and at every stopping place tho morbidly Jnquißitlve strove to eatfth sight of him. However, thß blinds ■were kept down for the whole of the trip, and notoe saw the terrible man except his custodians, until Auckland was reached. Higglna will appear before the Police Court to-day. The hour of his appearance has riot been made known, but it will doubtless be before the Court is opened for ordinary business, so that there will not bo a rush of the "Noseys" to crowd the building out. It js reported that Higgins is quite comfortably installed at Mount Eden. He eats and sleeps well, gives no trouble^ and is apparently not worrjed by his 'situation. ' '
