THE COLOSSEUM ROLLER RINK.

The announcement that the 1923 roller skating season is about to commence will no doubt be welcome news to the hundreds of skating- loving pe.ople of Wellington. Boiler skating has always been a. very popular Indoor winter pastime, and this season, judging- by the success of the two previous ones, promises to eclipse all others. The third season of a revival has always proved to be the best. It ia borne out by the theory that the opening year is monopolised by tfi.? skaters of some year3 standing, and leaves little room for the timid learners. The second year is usually availed of, from the commencement, by learners who, after a week's practice, go on perfecting their deportment, and at the end of the season are more or less full-blown skaters, and last season, the management is proud to annqunce, over 400 pupils mastered the, nrt. The third year brings back the' old skaters, who together with. last season's learners (which are this year's skaters) ensures the comfort of all participants of the art. In" anticipation of this the management has expended a lQt of money in renovating and adding to the building, thus ensuring clemiHness and comfort for Jts patrons. New dressing rooms hßvr> been installed, and the two spectators' aides (Tor halt the length of the. rink) hnve been lowered to the level of the ,«kating surface and will be set asld» for skaters sitting out or requiring attention to their skates. Upholstered ppats add to this comfort. New "Chicago" skates nre expected to arrive shortly, in anticipation of a very big season, and when the floor (which was new last season) haß been prepared by the latest device in the form of a "surfacing machine" it will leave nothing to b&.,doßiretV Even, the-*oot has. not escaped attention. ,and Borne magnificent decorations, painted ■ by Messrs. Diamond nml Manson. will bo orected next week. Without doubt, past patrons could not Imasine the transformation that hits taken place in the Colosseum Rink. Tho definite opening date will be announced later.
