It is remarkable how much can be done on a small paid-up capital when a business is co-operative in Its nature. In this case the paid-up capital has practically doubled itself in eight years. Why the accumulated profits are allowed to be carried forward from 1 year to year and not be put aside in a reserve fund this (writer is at a loss to explain. On the face of things it looks as If the management of the dispensary did not know what to do with the profltß which have accumulated and so has carried them forward from each balance to the other following. If there is a definite aim for the use of these profits, why are they not placed to some account named to suit the intention of the society? This would seem to be a rational and proper manner of safeguarding the accumulations for the good of the society. The only liability in the balance sheet, apart from those to members, is "sundry creditors £87." The amount is so email that NO NEED FOR ANXIETY should' exist in the minds of any of t)vn brethren connected with these lodges. On the other side of the balanc«i sheet everything lookß as clean as a gun barrel, and as Bfcraigfct • The total of assets is £3051, and they are all paid for, with only a debt of £87 standing against the lot Nearly £800 of these assets is in cash, while for property £710, plant £195, and stocks £ 1364, there Is ample evidence that sound assets are covered by ; these items. The stock Is reported as in good order and condition, and, what is very important, it is stated to bo "saleable." The latter pronouncement gives the finishing touch of confidence to the- balance sheet The profit and loss account is made up of items which prove economy in all respects 1b the ruling feature of the business. Profits are, therefore, without inflation. One thing regarding the trading of this society: it gives its members "various prescriptions free that were previously charged for."
