Admiral Codrington was suited by the soft going at Woodvlllo, and he won well on each day. He was ridden by C. Franco, who is showing fair form m tho Baddle at the present timo.

L' Amour was backward at Woodville, but if his trainer can keep him on his legs he will soon come right.

After getting all the worst of the luck on tho homo turn m the Oete Handicap at Woodville Crown Gem then finished strongly 1" fourth place. On tho second day she was neglected on tho machine, but she won and paid a good price.

Five Eighths, who has proved an expensive toy to his present owner, casio to light m the Stewards' /Hack at Woodvlllo and returned his few supporters a big dividend.

"Racing." said a veteran at Newmarket (England) recently, "is now a gamo of catch -as -catch can. I've had fifty years of it and cannot remember a timo when It was moro crooked. I'm sorry to say it, but it's true, and it's no good blinking facts." Back m the winter there was a lot of oinclal talk about "gingering up" the local stewards. On the principle of example being hotter than precept, a large jar of this condiment might very well bo presented to the Jockey club stewards themselves.

When Gazeworthy won- the Telegraph Hack Handicap at Woodville he beat a good-sized field. He was coupled with Karutahi and the dividend was a small one. Eonmark seems unable to do better^than run second. The Dannevirke sportsman, Mr. C. Erickson, owner of Sweet Song, has been land aside with illness for the past few weeks, but he was well enough to go to Woodville to see his mare race. Malingerer is a bit touched m the wind now. Ethiopian was a big order for the first hurdle race at Woodville, but after having every chance he. failed to get a place. Ranui is a very likely sort to make good as a hurdler. He is a great jumper. s ) The Woodville Club struck bad weather for its meeting, and if the club gets out without a loss then "Spearmint" knows nothing about figures. Savory having proved a failure on the flat, is now to be tried at hurdle racing". If his Woodville form is any criterion he won't win a National. Conflict was fancied by her trainer for, the Trial at Woodville, but she failed to get m the picture. A pleasing feature of the Woodville race cards was the addition of a "Form at a Glance." The results at Horowhenua, Ashhurst and Feilding were given and 'were much appreciated by patrons. A. Oliver is going to ride Solfanella ln the Railway Handicap at Ellerslie. He and the Reeds will be present, on the second and third days of the Manawatu meeting. . Many Kittle will be favorite for the Manawatu Cup. It will not be a strong field. Halgina was unlucky at the start of the Trial at Woodville, and he did not get near the front during the race. The Fleeting boom burst badly at Woodville, where big money was lost on the half-sister to Rebekah. - She did not have any the best of the luck, ahd should not be written off yet. Racing at Te' Awamutu this weekend. Crown Gem will pay her way this season. A bit on the small side, the daughter of Mungista, an Oaks winner, is, nevertheless, solidly built, and she should get a middle distance later on. Winning Hit will be very hard to beat m the Auckland Cup. He is the blot of the handicap. Ransack, the full sister to Pillage, who got on the winning list at Woodville, has a great dash of pace, but it may not be wise to place too much reliance on her form of last week, as she had the minimum weight m the saddle, and though she spreadeagled the field they were not a good lot. Reremonana is a good mover, and she should win : a race shortly. The outing at Woodville will do her good, as she is very green. Simonette was heavily backed for the Nursery Handicap at Woodville. She might have been second had she not stumbled at the turn for home. Enthuse, who ran well at Trentham m October, was expected to show up at Woodville, but she did -not exhibit any pace at all, and when under pressure she was inclined to turn it up. Civility got carried off the course at the turn for home m the Nursery Handicap at Woodville. Only for this she would have been second to Ransack. Toa Taua was suffering from a cold at Woodville, and his engagements were cancelled. Maioha is coming down ln the handicaps. He should be a good horse to follow from now on. Esperance could not hit out m heavy going at Woodville, and she finished nearly a furlong* last. Scion is looking a picture, and he will be a very handy second string m the Auckland Cup. He is to bo redden by-M. McCarten. It is going to be hard to get hurdle riders on the opening day at Awapunl, as all the big gun horsemen are going to Ellerslie, but they will bo back for the second and third days at Awapunl.
