Webster are both getting teams ready to do the West Coast meetings at Christmas. ' -

I A dark double! On the same afternoon that the Senegalese boxer, Sikl. beat Carpetitier m Paris, the .colt Senegalais, belonging to M. L Niguet, won the Belgian St Leger at Boitsfort M. E. Boulvin's ■• Franz Hals, beaten five lengths, was second, and M. A. Clavareau's Sixte third. Senegalais by this victory brought his gains this year up to 104,000fr. In the Armadale Cup, run at Caulfield last month, the New Zealandbred Truthful was considered unbeatable by her connections, and was reported to be 'galloping well since she previously raced, but Bhe gave a wretched .. display, ending a bad last. The sum of £12,820 Is to be given In stakes by the West Coast racing clubs during the Carnival, which opens with the Westland meeting on December 26 and 27. Then follows Greymouth on December 29, January 1 and 3, and Reef ton' on January 6 and 8. / One of the old-time racing identities m Mr .Tom F. Nolan is now located at Fordell. Some year? back he raced two good horses m Leolanta and Gold Purse, both of whom had successful careers on the turf. At present Mr Nolan is the owner of a useful-looking five-year-old mare by Hallowmas from the well-bred Formless, and she will shortly be put to the Illegitimate game, as she has already proved,- m private, her ability to jump. The other Inmate of the stable Is a yearling gilding which claims as its progenitors ' Guianaf orte and Maisie Belle (Advance -Splendid Idea). This youngster is well-developed, shows quality, and should pay its way during its racing career. /"Weekly Reader" writes as follows: "Did not a body called the Racing I Commission sit m New Zealand a short . time ago, and did not a number I of clubs, Takapuna among the rest, I get shaky m the knees as a result? 1 thought that this Commission drew attention to the accommodation provided by this club, or rather the lack of it, threatened all kinds of things unless something was done; so why is the i'akapuna Club allowed to carry on without attempting .to • Improve the accommodation? Avbndale had to take a little advice, and the trotting clubs saw the necessity for ! improving things generally, but for some reason the Takapuna Club seems to be on 4he right side. It is a pity that members of the Commission could not have. been present last Saturday. However, if they had they would have been, taken ,to the members' stand, treated well, and seen everything with no inconvenience to themselves. There is absolutely no accommodation .for the outside public and the totalisator*. both inside and out are absolutely oui of date and inadequate for presentday needs. The Inside stand is worse than that of many country clubs, and why this x:lub is not compelled to enlarge it and make further exits is beyond me. . The dining room is m keeping with the stand, the club evidently thinking that no, one wants to eat at their meeting}?. The crushing and pushing to get either a seat or a meal is a case of the survival of the fittest."..;: . Woodville to-day and Monday. After racing at the Woodville meeting the Quinllvan team are to be railed on to Ellerslie. Insurrection and the two-year-old. Laughing Stock, are under orders for the Ellerslie meeting, but they will race at Waipa on the way north. The two-year-olds imported from England by Mr V. Riddiford are being handled at ;Trentham. Early In the New- Year they will commence trainIng, but so far it has not been decided who will be tteir mentor*.^ Before leaving England Mr V. Reports from Hastings say that Dangerv Zone has changed hands, but the buyer, is not known. Dominant, the full sister to Nones and Lovematch, is under offer to a Sydney buyer. The Feilding Club struck bad weather for its spring meting and a postponement was found necessary. The weather did' not improve and both race days were spoilt by the rain. The totalisator fell away and the club will, most likely, have to face a loss. V Horses weighing m short weight is a regular occurrence these days and there Is sure to be an outcry at the next sitting of the Racing Conference. Te Maire made his reappearance at the Felldihg meeting, but he ran badly. Though his first day's form did not warrant it, ho was heavily backed on the ' second day, but he failed to gain a place. He should be a better horse by _ Christmas. A pleasing feature of the Feilding meeting was the promptitude of the closing of the totalisator, and the raceu were got off well to time. Kail only started once at Felldlng, and he ran badly. He was ridden by H. McSweeney, but after being out m front for ' a mile he failed to finish on. After several disappointing raoeß Passenger showed a return to form at Feilding, where he finished first on the opening day and was placed second pn the "next day owing to the rider ot Sir Fanciful falling to draw tho correct weight. In the Waituna Hurdles at Felldlng Sir Fanciful was going so well at the home turn that ho looked sure to win, but m the r,un home he could make Ino impression on Woden. The Napierowned horse jumped well with the exception of . one fentfe, which nearly brought him down and lost him over a dozen lengths. The-Waverley trainer, W. Dwycr, Is Bhortly going to Sydney with some of Sir H. W. Brown's team. Viyella went well over flvo furlongs at Hastings before the Feildins meeting and her trainer had every confidence that she would win a race at Feilding, but she did not handle the going well. Sho may do better m her next outing. Wako Up Is backward yet as a*rosult.of a fall which interfered with her preparation. Sho will bo very hard to boat -In tho autumn. While on tho train for Follding, the two-year-old Attractive reared up and fell In her box. As a result of his struggles ho waa badly hurt, and It is doubtful if he will ever nice again. Helen RuCus was tho unlucky porformor at Feilding. where, but for her bad behavior rit the barrier, she would certainly have won a race. Tho postponement of tho FcJlulnff meeting hail a ficrlous effect on tho fields for tho second day, as several horses had been booked to leave ami their owners kept to tho original programme. Cluba ahould only postpone meetings aa a last resource, for they tiro always losing propositions for everyone. Sunnrt ran quite a good race at FelldlnK and if ho keeps sound ho will »oon be n.t hla best. The crack three-year-old. Many Kittle. Is Included Jn the field for the Manawatu Cup. - /

Rational will make his next appearance m the Palmerston North Stakes. The most opposition will come from Tamatate, but the latter will be making his first appearance, so Rational will have a bit m his favor. Waipatu was started m the Stakes on the first day at Feilding and ran a fair race. He came back into hack company on the 'second day and won very easily. His supporters got a .great price consequent upon the strong support forthcoming for Refrigeration. Kilroe, who has " been racing consistently, but without luck lately, will get his chance m the maiden at Awapuni. Fisher has been having a spell since he raced at Riccarton, but he will be m the field at Awapuni at Christmas, Ngata is m regular work at Marton, and will be raced at Christmas. Basso was taken to the Feilding meeting, but he ran badly m the heavy going. : The two-year-olds to be raced at the Manawatu meeting are not a good Blissfulness did not have any the best of the luck at Feild, ing, and he .should do better at his next start The Auckland- owned No Bother has been entered for the hurdle races at the coming Manawatu meeting. H& won a race at the same fixture last year.. Zola was not ready at Feilding, but he will be at his best by Awapuni. Recently he jarred one of his joints md his owner, W. Rayner, could not Jo much with him before the Feilding meeting. Whizz Bang is giving his trainer crouble and he may not stand long. The trouble Is m his hocks. Bellina is starting to make a noise, and she will be retired to the stud. Refrigeration is a bit on the small ride, but there is no getting away from the fact that she has a lot of pace. Outside of Refrigeration and Aeriform, the maidens seen out at Feilding were not a good lot. A touple of others m Hecate and AUma.•imba will see a better day when they ire a bit more forward. Aeriform, who chased Refrigeration on the first day at Feilding and scor^ on the second day, is by Acrostic rom No Trumps. He has not been jp very long so his trainer has deeded not to hurry him. He will make Us next appearance at the Marton nesting at New Year. Silver Link has run her last race, [ md is to go to the stud. Fera made quite a good showing m .he St. Andrews Handicap at Fetid.ng and, after leading all the way was only ruri down by Merry Day <n the last 100 yards. The race evidently got to the bottom of the Fera.norz mare as she ran badly at her <econd attempt. Rouen is not himself and he ran Dadly last week. Muraahi ran much below his best 'orra at Feilding and aa it was thought that the going was responsible for his poor display he was sent home without racing on the second day. The very consistent Merry Day won the big race on both days at Feilding. She was ridden by B. Garrett, a son ■it the well-known Opaki trainer, and .he youngster had her well m the picture all the time. A trifle on thp small side, it may be expected thai a bit of weight will always trouble her, but Bhe is solid and will win plenty of races. While working at Wanganui recently Listowel strained the muscles of his shoulder and he has had to be .spelled. Tolande was well fanoied by her trainer for the apprentices' race at ['-eliding, but she failed to go further than four furlongs. Probably the going did not suit her. Kilbird finished so well at the end of seven furlongs at Feilding that when racing over a mile on the second day ho was made a good favorite and he took it out. He is very green ms yet, but is likely to come good with time. Good Mark made amends for his previous failures by winning on the first day at Feilding and running a i?ood second at his next attempt. Racing is improving .the bay gelding and he should pick up another Btake during the holiday ' meetings. Only thrqe moderates opposed Rapine m the Flying at Fellding, and. backed down to a very short price, the Martian gelding won easily. It does not look as if Dainty Step will ever be as good as she was two seasons back. At Feilding she had the going In her favor, but the best t aho could do was to run second each day. Still Sea has again been giving his trainer trouble and he had to be struck out of his Follding engagements. Epitaph Btarted a good favorite In the Feilding Stakes, but she never looked llko defeating Rational.
