. The Whanyarei meeting closes foday. (Saturday). Pillsworth, who won the Pakuranga Hunt Cup, is a good sort of 'chaser. Pavo is just getting enough to stop him from winning-. He llooks good enough to win anything, but cannot make even a decent show. Miss Hester, who was paying any old price m the Bracelet; should have landed the jewellery instead of finishing third. This mare is sure to .win a race or two this season. King Pellicu.le ran a banging good race m the Hunters' Hurdles, and with a bit' of experience will' be useful. . King Abbey showed all his old dash on Saturday, but as usual as soon as he was tackled he went back very fast.

Uncle Ned was badly left at the start of the Jellicoe Handicap, and his rider very wisely did not knock the gelding about when he saw it was impossible to get near the leaders. Pavo was responsible for a fine performance m the Chatham Handicap. Despite the heavy going the topweight looked all over a winner inside the distance, but was just touched off m the last couple of strides by Waumatere. Royal Abbey finished on well m the Jellicoe, but never really got m the danger line. He is not a real good horse. Fingoland was a big tip m the Chatham Handicap, but after being m second place at the home turn he blew out and finished last- but one. It will be different when the half-brother to Desert Gold gets a dry track. Jolly Princess ran well enough last week to suggest she will earn a cheque soon. She goes well on a heavy track. Crowhurst showed no pace at all m the Chatham. He will be better over hurdles. The race for the: Hunt Cup was a beauty and the leaders kept changing positions over the last lap. However, Pittsworth soon settled any arguments m the run home and strolled m at the finish. Daddy's Girl looked to have the Bracelet won when Glencalrn dashed up a short distance from the post and won by a neck. The winner was a warm favorite, / but he was a shade lucky to win. Punters got it where the chicken received the axe when two outsiders m Shortland and Lady Hill were the first couple home m the Auckland Handicap. The' going apparently did not suit Amiform and the gelding was well beaten three furlongs from home. The battle between Myall King and Never Despair for second money m the Pakuranga Hunt Cup was a royal one and over the last furlong they fought it out stride for stride, Myall King 3ust getting the honor. Never Despair -<vas paying a royal price when he just failed to get second m the Hunt Cup. . a . Esplanade is not worth the proverbial two 'bob." He had every chance m the Hunters' Hurdles, but was beaten out of a place m the run home. . Nowra was kept too far out of the Hunt Cup to give him a chance. Next time it might be* different. There was good money for Sycorax m the. Jellicoe, but the King Mark mare was always amongst the rear division and ran a poor race. In the Avondale Cup 'Glen Canny finished third after being at the tail of a strung out field with six furlongs to do. In the Jellicoe Handicap on Saturday he came from a long way back and simply .walked over the opposition. He had McCormack m the saddle, and no doubt the stronger horseman made a vast difference. A good price was given for Camboola last season. So far he hasn't earned. one pennypieoe of the. purchase money. Canowindra, usually a bad horse at the barrier, got well away m the Jellicoe, but Wiggins was booting him along five furlongs from, home trying to keep a. position. It "was all to np purpose. Far North is a useful three-year-old, and will win races if not given too much weight. Eruera, the favorite m the Hunters' Hurdles, only, got tto the second fence. Gladwin was out m front m the last lap of the Maiden Hunters' Steeplechase when he dropped his : rider on the track. Mia Bella, who won the Hunters' Hurdles m a hard canter by a week, is one of F. Nocturne is coming along nicely and will be a nuisance m a hack event shortly. Heisler was a big tip m the Sylvia Park Handicap. -R. Reed stepped the Lord Multifid gelding to the front early, but he could not go on with it, and, though he finished fourth, was vyell dished at the In the Sylvja Park Handicap the three place-getters.
