The cricket season is billed to open at Auckland on October 28. Already the teams are oiling their bats and getting everything ready for a little practice. A silver-plated shield is being do-" nated by Mr W. Davis, of the Richmond Club, for competition amongst the " senior teams. Already several clubs have decided just where they will hang it on the wall of their room. It is expected that there will be 20 or more teams competing this season under the auspices of the Suburban Cricket Association. The more the merrier. The ' Suburban Cricket Association . is up m arms against the Auckland body and reckons the latter is trying, to bar. the suburban clubs from securing ■ senior pitches on the Domain. There is a little story about a lion who was glad to have the assistance of a mouse on one occasion. What a serious loss Auckland cricket has suffered through Dacre having the misfortune to get his arm broken at Association football! Admirers of a dashing batsman and .brilliant field all hope that it is only a temporary absence from the game.
