CANTERBURY v. WELLINGTON.
On a fast ground and under favor- ; able weather, conditions the Canter-' bury representative 'hockey team met' and defeated Wellington at the Basin Reserve last Saturday. The t6ams were as follows:— : Canterbury— Snooks, Skelton, Grose, Paacoe, Butterfield, Mander, Richmond, Sheriff, Franklin, Ford, and Taylor. ' Wellington — Mbore, Harris, Martis, Scott, Whitehead, Henderson, Kirk, Morris, Cousens, O'Brien and Watchman. -. '■-. .■ ■" ' :'■ -. •: .■.'... ' ■ The referees were Messrs B. . A. Ginger and W. Hatch. For various reasons only • five of the o-riginal eleven selected to represent Wellington took the field on the day of the match. There was noth-' ing of a sensational nature m the early stages of the match, neither side showing ■. any distinct advantage, the defence being sound all round. Wellington forwards put m some short passing m the circle, but the visiting backs repeatedly saved. . and ..transferred. A mixed rally m front, of the. Wellington-: goal saw the visitors score.. As the finish drew near Wellington again assumed the aggressive, and from a melee m the circle Whitehead drove through and notched Wellington's only score, the game ending: Canterbury 3, Wellington 1.
