PRELIMINARIES.
Three amateur contests preceded the main event, as follows: P. Charles (8.11^) beat J. Arbon (West Coast) (9.0). The West Coaster is a fire-eater full of fight, but he found it difficult to nail the elusive Charles, who shot out his left nicely and gained the decision. Arbon was feather runnerup at the last N.Z. Championships, and is a hard nut to crack for anyone who will stand and mix it. J. Tyree (11.10) beat W. Corbett (11.0) after a scramble m which science was conspicuous by its absence. Corbett failed to live up to the illustrious monnicker with which he is graced.
