Caustic Correspondent Causes Commotion

THE MODERN MAID AND HER • AMUSEMENTS AND MORALS.

Vindication of Maoriland's Maidens. With reference to the letter signed "L.M!." published m our issue of July 23 last, we. must confess that on first perusing our correspondent's malicious attack oil "the virtue of the. women of this country we determined not tc give it- publicity, but on further consideration, well knowing as we do that none of our, readers would , for one minute believe our correspondent's wild and malicious statements we thought it better to insert the letter as.an extraordinary example of malig-' nity and as a warning to the women of New Zealand of what they have to meet "from their own sex. We now welcome the opportunity of publishing ,some replies thereto, and may say that we fully endorse every word written m condemnation of "L.M." Evil be to her who evil thinks. With what judgment she judges by .that let her be judged. It is no doubt too much to expect that the criticism of our correspondents will cure "L.M.'s" malignity—that probably' is. invincible; but let us hope that the 1 well merited castigation will increased her knowledge which, as Bacon says, . is the best cure for suspicion.
