CHILDREN'S COURTS IN U.S.A.
The United States children's bureau estimated that ' 175,000 children were brought before oourts last year and that 50,000 of them came before courts not adapted to handling children's cases, Although every State except one' has juvenile probation laws, less than half tlie courts hearing children's cases have probation service. The majority of the courts, says the bureau, fail to make adequate investigation of the child's home and family circumstances, his 1 physical and mental condition and his personal tendencies. This is especially true m small towns and rural districts. The bureau says that important tendencies toward improvement are noted m juvenile court work.
