(By "Bilenus.") It has been suggested that a paragraph" which appeared m this column last week, referring to the General Link-Hayseed double, might be construed as reflecting upon Mr. A. Fleming, the driver of General Link. Let It be here definitely and plainly stated that the Idea intended to be conveyed was directly contrary to this uncharitable suggestion; namely, that none of the connections of either horsa' (including Mr. Fleming) was likely to succumb to any advances that might be made by bookmakers with a view to "deadening" either General Link or Hayseed. By those intimately acquainted with Mr. Fleming and the other connections of the horses named, ajl of whom are well-respected m trotting circles, the wilful misinterpretation of the paragraph's intention will only be laughed at. It is for . the benefit of those who are not so acquainted and are only too ready to believe malicious fabrications that this ex- . planation ,is being made. That is . th« only reason why any attention whatever is due to this preposterous suggestion.
