Industrial Insurance
Politicians Probing Its Peccability. Since "Truth" returned to the attack on the iniquitous system of industrial insurance, many letters of approvaJ have been received, and interested persons have called to express their hearty endorsement of: our condemnation of the evils of the system. We understand, also, that others are sending: copies of "Truth" containing the articles m question to members to bringthe matter before Parliament early and often. We are glad to say that members are beginning to realise how great a scandal has been going on under their very noses for years without their being aware of it. "Truth's" former exposure failed because of the outbreak of; the war diverting tno mindf of the people to a questioii of g-reat>:r urgency. This time, r.owevor. the matter is likely to be taken up .m earnest, and the unholy exploitation of the; very poverty «of the poor put a stop to. Mr. Statham and Mr. Witty have both askeVS questions concerning the Government's attitude to the agitation, and have received, so far, mere evasive and temporising replies. On Tuesday afternoon last things were carried a little further by Mr. Tom Wilford, who gave notice to ask the Prime Minister: If the Government would appoint a magistrate to inquire into and take evidence upon charges made against the equity of Industrial insurance m this country, and if it would invite evidence and appoint a counsel to ■ represent any -who might care tostate their case? It appears to "Truth" that Tom's query is "loaded," and double-barrelled at that. It will be interesting to see how Mr. Massey replies.
