Dangers of Vaccination

! It is generally aonceded at the present time that vaccination is more of an abuse than a remedy, and, indeed, may very often be considered a potential danger. At present a mild scare has developed m Otago and Southland m regard to the alleged prevalency of American, small-pox, and interested persons have taken advantage of the rumor to inflate the safeguards to be enjoyed, by submitting to vaccination. -As a result, parents who have stood out for years against the absurdities of vaccination are now submitting their children and themselves to the process of the knife and lymph. Upwards of 6000 persons have been vaccinated at Invercargill, and hundreds of children are being treated similarly at Dunedin. The doctors are at last recovering the ground lost by the unpopularity of .vaccination m past years, and if the scare and success continue we will probably be having compulsory vaccination mooted again. However, rumor has it that there have been several deaths already m the far south as a direct result of vaccination. We have not been able to verify the rumor, but that there is a grim basis of truth beneath It is apparent ..from the following, news- item published by the Dune - din "Evening Star," a well-informed paper: During the past fortnight there have been two deaths m Southland f ollowing on vaccination for American small-pox.
