A TRAVELLER RETURNS

» ■-■ ■ ■ Mr. Morris Shapiro's Story Of Zeppeiins Over London. . Mr. J. Morris Shapiro who a 'few days ago, returned from London where he resided for several months, says that the absurd stories which have got into circulation concerning the havoc said to have been wrought m Britain, and more especially m London as a result of the various Zeppelin raids are too funny for words. During bis stay m Britain Mr. Shapiro missed no opportunity of personally visiting places where Zeppelin bombs had been dropped. Some damage of course had been done. It is not to be expected that our luck would never be out, but such damage as has been done is inflnitisfcmal when compared with some of THE WELD TALES IN CIRCULATION. Mr. Shapiro says that m every instance kinematographio pictures were taken of places hit by Zeppelin bombs and these pictures were afterwards shown m the "movies" throughout Britain, and, he understood, were sent also to the colonies, to <"^j>^d^ and America, so that the people m these countries could see for themselves the actual damage done. From what he saw of this last and the number of Zeppelics brought down, Germany must have found the raids much more expensive than Britain has so far found them. It was Mr. Shapiro's intention to go on to hia native country, Russia, m order to help m the munition factories there, he having been employed m the government factories before leaving Russia. He found, however, that he could enter Russia only as a Russian subject and by surrendering or revoking his naturalisation first as a Scotsman and latterly as a New Zealander. Mr. Shapiro said he could not think of complying with such a request . He knew Russia and be bad left it years ago and haying lived under the British nag for thirty years he had no intention by any .'deliberate act of his own to revoke or to culpably LOSE ins BRITISH CITIZENSHIP. As he, for obvious reason, refused to re-enter Russia except as a British citizen, and as the Rueaian Consul m London refused to grant him the necessary passport except as a Russian subject, Mr. Shapiro decided to return to' New Zealand.
