(By "The Looker-On.") The going at the Dunedin and Oomaru meetings was very hard. Adjutant started playing up on the road to the course one day at Dunedin •and got his hind legs tangled up m a Wire fence. Besides giving himself some ugly scratches, he was lame for a few days, but iB sound again now. He lightened up a great deal on the trip. Findhorn is to be operated on this week for throat trouble, after which the Finland gelding will be spelled until the late autumn. , Margerine looks none the worse for her trip south. She is building up into a very solid-looking mare. Clncinnatus is building up very quickly. If his legs only stand the strain he might win a decent handicap during the winter. : Mason made a flying visit from Trentham last week, presumably to see which of his other two-year-olds he would take to Wellington. ; Lovesick is beginning to pick up, but she is still far from being m robußt condition. ; Tyne, who is. very poriifled, and something of a Commoner to 1 look at, can gallop rather smartly. ■ .■ ■ ; .- ■ ■• ■ > Snub had a few days' spell after 4 returriing from Dunedin. Disdainful is still pottering along on the tracks, but she appears to go more scratchily every day. " F. D. Jones will take Kilbrae, Weekend and Comely to Trentham. Bandy has arived back at headquarters, but if his near fore leg will stand galloping on hard tracks then anything wilt Comely was on the light side when she arrived home from Dunedin, but being of a robust constituti<fn it will not take her long to build up again. Battle Eve is none the worse for his trip south. On the second day of the Oamaru meeting he fairly bolted from his field. ■* Week End could not act on the hard going at Wingatui. McCombe is giving Ills team a short respite from hard work. ' Pyjama raced m J. McCombe's name while down south. Ho managed to win a ruce for his new owner at WaJkoualti. The Toft had some hard racing at tho Auckland Cup* mooting, but he is none the worse for it. Ho will probably be a runner m the Waterloo Plate at Trentham. MoAuley had a successful trip to Southland with Daytime and Snrnison. It htis not been decided whether he will take a team to Trenthum. The finish for the Cup at lnvercar£|ll was a very cloao one, and something like a riot occurred when the Judge put tip the numbers. Marabout, who won two races while on tour down anuth, la havlnk w short lot up. She is v useful mure m moderate company. Lonsloy had bad luck while down at Wingatui. Both of his English nUicH, Love Token and Winter Cherry, went very Horo and will require a good spell.

Many good judges were greatly impressed witli Matty's running at Win-g-ami. To date she has raced twice, finishing third on one occasion, and second on the other. It is said that this mare may go to the other side. Ascalaphus did not manage to win a race during the holidays. It was flying at high game to tackle the Invercargill Cup with such a green gelding. Bore should have won one of the hurdle races at Oamaru. First staTt his rider made too much use of his mount; and second time out he lay hopelessly out of it and then was only touched off. Marakoa, who won the hurdle race on the second day of the Oamaru meeting, comes from Southland, He is an aged gelding, by Canrobert — Assyrian Queen. The race he had on the first day must have done him a world of good, as he was a. much better horse next day. '■■ All Ready looks well, but he is not nearly as good a galloper as he was two years ago. His people were s«nguinu that he would run a great race In the Buckley Memorial Handicap, and all he could do was to finish last m a field of five. Glen Helen got badly left oa the first day at Oamaru, and on the 1 second day, when opposed to four scrabbles, she s weired into the fence and finished last. She was lame afterwards. Yes finished racing for Mr. J. Parsons at the Oaumru meeting. Ardmore appeared to be lame when walking round the birdcage at Oarnaru, In his races he could, not pace it ■with the leaders and lost a lot of ground,, but "was galloping ovet everythinjr' when it was too late. Placid got a very bad run m the Parkside Welter and then got up m timo to beat BTiax Patch by a head. Later m the day, with a 61b penalty m the Windsor Handicap, he was out with.' the leaders after going half a furlong. He then smashed into the fence. He was lucky that he did not go over it. The" stirrlp-iron was buckled up, and the boy who was blamed got cautioned. If he did tho bumping he was certainly lucky to get oft so cheaply. Of . the two-year-olds racln* at Oamaru, KHrnsh, a gelding, by KUbrohy — Prank, looked like turning out the best galloper. Kilberry, who won. on the second day, is a half -sister to Honesty. Full Bloom Jb quite mod. Her owner was so pleased with her showing at Dunedin that he presented her to Sam Trllford.- Sam will have some trouble breaking her m. Aerial is oft color. His showings at Dunedin and Oatnaru wore for below expectations. Clynelish has turned savage and will not go near the starting peg. At Wingatui "Brusher" Wood went back to lead .the Soult horse up to the barrier, but when he saw him coming he made a dive at him, so it was decided to leave the . beast where he was.
