DIED FOR HIS COUNTRY

The death of Private J. B. Schock, son of Mrs. A. R. Schock, of Wellington, has been reported. Young "Jack" was m the employ of Messrs. Turnbull and Jones, electricians, before enlisting, and volunteered at the outbreak of the war. He was wounded twice at Gallipot!, and was invalided to England. Subsequently he went to France, where he received fatal wounds m the head. Some ill-advised references were made m Parliament last session by John Payne regarding his enlistment and the 'nationality of hla parents. I'V l letter received last week by an CT-meraber of "Truth's" staff; who is now m camp, the soldier expressed bitter resentment at the politician endeavoring to drag the name of his mother, an Englishwoman, through the mud. "But," said he| "1 suppose I have one consolation, \n<l that is, that perhaps, with all his trueblue idealistic and patriotic boostings, he cannot equal the part I am playing for New Zealand. lam dotng my bit, and did not have to bo sent to do it. Why do not the true Parliamentarians of military ago set the example? It seems that they would rather sit tight m their Government Jobs and throw dirt at the mothers of sons who have gone to fight for them." The deceased was a fine specimen of a young New Zealander.
