COURSING

And Kennel Notes

XBt "Master McGrathi" c/o P.O. Box 691, Dunedin.)

The following, through some strange means or other, has gone the rounds of the Dominon's penny pressi i~7j>uring aT coursing meeting at NelsonTigttsSatur--day (reported last week) thojnaxhe and pedigree of Top Note were by. the judge (Mr. H. M'Arfcney), and after making careful lnquir, ies, be cided that the dbg was Bugle Call, a dog well-known --throughout' SNFew '■■ Zealand. As it happened, Mr. M'Artney imported Bugle Call, so that when lie t saw Top Note he recognised His tation. The dog was purchased? by his" present owners from an advertisement, and they are quite innocent m the matter, which will "be dealt with by the club." , ; . It is a very serious thing altogether! If what Mr. M'Artney alleges is true,/ and. we feel sure he would not be the : means of uttering anything of the kind gnless it Is fully within his power to substantiate everything. Consequently we would like to hear more fully on the discovery, as the pair above leaves much, obscurity m one's mind. Meantime, writer has received the following: ' "Master McGrath," Dear Sir,— l am enclosing a press cutting that has leached me, where Mr. H. M'Artney, coursing judge at Nelson, asserts that he imported the dog Bugle CalL I wish to state that the only dog by that name running m New Zealand was purchased by me from John Munday, then Secretary Victorian Coursing Club, and an auctioneer. He was bred by. Fryar Bros, and was m Mr. Munday*s hands for sale. I- purchased him for Mr. F. Sibley, and he was always m my hands, and was afterwards my property and m no other hands till I arranged to send him to Victoria for stud purposes, where I believe he is still (if alive). I think Bugle Call would cut a very poor figure m a/course now, as he would be about 11 years of age. I have On Guard here, by Bugle Call, and he is turned eight years, and he was the second litter by Bugle Call out of Dartmoor. The register will show this. Whilst Bugle Call is litter brother to the well-known Blre m Tom White's kennels, Mooneo Ponds, Victoria, named Full Captain, by Major BoothSongbird I. The dog Top Note always ran here as being by Bugle Call., Mr. Malcolm's bitch, Maori- Queen, visited Bugle Call while I had him.— Yours, etc, V. JACKSON. July 5, . . , ; Gumraie'fl Bush. Southland. **"■■ In view of the above very plain statement it would be interesting to know how Mr. M'Artney can establish his case. No doubt he considers he has ample facts and it would.be as well if the public got hold of them; for, if what he alleges is .correct, one will wonder why the Association has not moved.

In view of the good support given to northern clubs by visiting owners and trainers from the far south, it is to be hoped that northerners will return the compliment wherever convenient- These friendly visits and exchanges keep the Bport alive, and createt a bono" of fellowship that takes many hard knocks to sever.
