SOUTHERN SPORT.

OTAGO AND SOUTHLAND JOTTINGS. (By "Al Primero.") The date of the Tapanui meeting given m our last issue as being early m December, should have read early m September. The Racing Conference has approved of the dates put forward, viz., September 1 and 2. Selbrook, who has accepted m the Hunt Club Cup at South Canterbury, is closely related to Tim Doolan. He is being trained by C. Giesler, at Wingatui, and is a much improved horse, but jumps rather bigr at present. It is probable that he will not be sufficiently forward to do himself Justice over a three mile journey. Cannlo Hughie, another of Glesler's team, will also make the journey. He has a fair amount of pace but appears to chanco too man}' of his fences, and one ' day recently good young Easton received a nasty spill. It. McDonald has an addition to hia team m a filly by Tawhakl from the speedy but flighty mare, San Severe Linden, who raced successfully during the season, is again m work and has thickened out into a nice little horse. C. Christie is taking Compulsion and Ikowai to Tlniaru. The latter is a inuoh improved horse and is at present m first-class fettle. Fred Beale has just put into work a gelding by Blackstone from Peak which appears likely to bo useful. Master Stead, who was engaged at Timaru but did not accept, showed good form over a few fences last week. The cause of this horse's continual soreness manifested itself m the shape of a fairly large piece of wood working itself out of one of his legs recently. Prank Conn has been lucky In picking up cheap horses, so it is quite on the cards this latest will be a tfood proposition.
