NORTHERN NOTES.

(By "Waimangu") Marconi and Toro Toro were the only Auckland-owned horses to win races at the Wellington meeting. Sir Rosa continues to progress satisfactorily m his schooling efforts. .D. Moraghan's two-year-old Empire is regarded as being one of the best juveniles being prepared at Ellerslie. Te Onga is jumping out of his skin and will take some beating m whatever he steps out. Hopyo failed badly at Trentham and is evidently not as good as it was thought he was. Gluepot paid a good price when he ran second to Wirokino. Gluepot is a promising sort and should turn out well over big fences. Tragedy King ran very much below his best form at Trentham. The son of Soult had been doing well before he left Auckland and his bad showing Is hard to understand. Toro Toro succeeded m catching a small race for his owner, but when he took on the select company he got well licked. - Royal Irish, who has not raced for some time, is again pottering about The gelding is very big and rough. Captain Jack seems to hav.e lost his punch.' He pulled up lame after the Wellington Steeplechase. Doncastor shapes like an old hand over the schooling hurdles. Goldsize is still m the paddock and will not be taken up for early spring racing. , Soultikoft is not likely to go on to Riccarton. Tho gelding Harlestone, formerly m F. Stenning's stable, is now being trained by H. French. Colonel Soult is striding along freely when asked to stretch himself and will be ready when the season opens. Indications point to the Pakuranga Hunt meeting next month being well patronised by owners. Quite a number of horses are getting tuned up when the tracks are at all suitable. Once again an Aucklander heads the jockeys list, this time the honor falling to J. O'Shea. F. Macmanemln has five juveniles very forward, and he will be unlucky If he does not catch some prize money early m the season. . The Celt, who is now m W. Sharpe's establishment, is a regular attendant on the track. The chestnut has been a big disappointment so far. Takanlnl is being kept going by W. Preston. The gelding is a good stayer and should make a 'chaser if tried over country. Crispeen, who went wrong just before the Northern meeting, is again m steady work under L. Coleman's guidance. P. Jones has purchased stables close to the Ellerslie course from F. J. Macmanemln. Toka Toka, a gelding by Regel. has been taken m hand by A. Morrow. Kidderminster Is showing improved paco on the track and will be ready when the flags are flying.
